Behind Biscuit
Borrowed this idea from
kaasknot and it's interesting to reflect the state of play on my active fannish life roughly a decade in.
Name: Biscuit
Age: late twenties
Pronouns: she/her/they/them are all fine
Role: fandom cheerleader? I write and overthink and mod a Discord, and I am starting to dabble in cosplay.
Current fandom: Star Wars in general, but I've made my home in the Prequels and create content almost exclusively for the Clone Wars period.
Favorite characters:
- Ahsoka Tano: words cannot describe my feelings for Ahsoka and her unique place in the canon. Her exuberance is infectious, her flaws relatable, her tenacity admirable; I want to be her, befriend her, defend her. She's gonna kill me in Season 7, I can feel it.
- Captain Rex: an overgrown teenager with a responsibility for other overgrown teenagers who could kill me with his elbow and has a face that says "i am emotionally vulnerable because i'm not supposed to have emotions" and a noble heart too big for his boots. He is also going to kill me in Fall 2k19.
- Fi & Sev: extra overgrown teenage snipers who locked onto each other accidentally? gimme. the tragedy boys of their squads? yes please.
- Bo-Katan: easy to write-off as the token Death Watch Leggy Broad, but 10x more interesting when viewed as the complicated and sole surviving child of House Kryze who goes from aristocrat to terrorist to paramilitary freedom fighter to reluctant Mand'alor in one of the best character arcs of the animated series. Eagerly awaiting her Second Coming in Season 7.
- Jack Aubrey: broad, loose-lipped nautical lion gets a more than honorable mention
Ships: up for anything, really, but solid favorites are Rexsoka, Fi/Sev, Bobasoka, and Bo-Katan/Cody. Certified Cloneshipper, notably Fettish. Do love a spot of hateful Reylo.
Fandom history: I was writing LotR self-insert fic before I even knew what that was, but the first piece of fannish writing that ever saw the light of day (by way of my 7th grade lit class -- bad idea) was an angsty thing about Legolas dying in Thranduil's arms. After being shamed for that, I wrote fic for Troy and things like The Other Boleyn Girl that I convinced myself weren't fanfic because they were ~historical~. Continued to overinvest in one hyperfixation to the next before landing on the Napoleonic Period, and joined tumblr to gush about the Aubrey-Maturin and Hornblower series. I wasn't reading much fic at this point, because historical diaries and war memoirs used all the text muscles in my brain. But while procrastinating in grad school, I found AO3 for -- of all things -- The Thick of It fanfic, specifically Malcolm/Jamie, and then I just kept getting steamrolled by one piece of media to the next, usually stuff featuring Tom Hardy. Then The Force Awakens happened and I discovered the galaxy far far away.
First ever introduction to fandom: Somehow (and god, I wish I remembered how) I came across an explicit LotR fic that involved carrots/hobbits and Legolas/Aragorn on my mom's laptop. No clue what I was really looking for, but it was probably something to do with Orlando Bloom. That must have been around 15 years ago, but it was a surprisingly accurate introduction to fannish behaviour: ridiculous and raunchy. While horrified then, I love it now.
Other fandoms I’ve lurked in: Inception, The Thick of It, LotR, Age of Sail
How I got into my current fandom: Reylo. #noragrets.
Other fandom platforms:
AO3: countessofbiscuit
Pillowfort: Due to uncertain rules about adult content, I won't be using Pillowfort.
Discord: Biscuit#2472
Mastodon: biscuit@clonewars.vet
Tumblr: countessofbiscuit
Real life stuff:
Professional: boozy admin
Non-fandom activities/hobbies: I sew quite a bit. When not at work or on my laptop scribblin' & noodlin' about Star Wars and fictional space militaries, I'm at the gym -- running, HIIT, cycling, &c.
I care deeply about: dogs, spreading warmth, and staying one step ahead of anxiety
